This usually happens when you have a chronic condition that requires ongoing treatment like physiotherapy or podiatry. In Australia, EPC referrals are a way for doctors to recommend other specialists to their patients.

EPC stands for Enhanced Primary Care, and it’s a system that allows you to see specialists at a subsidised cost. Your GP will assess your needs and if they think you could benefit from seeing a specialist like a podiatrist or occupational therapist, they’ll write you a referral. You can then take this referral to the specialist, who will claim your Medicare rebate on the spot.
